I received the Sulfnbk.exe hoax in my e-mail and like a fool I deleted it before I read about it. Now I can't get it back. I do not have a Windows 98 Second edition cd. All I have is two Quick Restore Cds. I have a Compaq 7922 computer. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you.

Annedman,

If you have a Compaq, you more than likely have this Folder:
C:\windows\options\cabs
That will get you access to the files you might need if you ever want to extract one using SFC or Cabview.

Go to Start>Run and type SFC press enter
Choose Extract one file from installation disk.
Type the name of the file. Press start.
On the next page, the restore from location will be:

C:\windows\options\cabs

Usually the save to location will be filled out. But since you would be missing this file. you would have to type that out as well.

C:\windows\command
Keep in mind for next time.

Here's a page with step by step instructions and Screen Shots. Substitute the path I gave you to the cabs. That's it.

I have a Gateway PC. But I had to sed apologies to about 20 people!

People who start these hoaxes are just as bad as the ones who really do spread the viruses!

Thank you for the links. I will pass them on. Thant is all right I was just fusterated with myself and the people who started the hoax. Now I will check on these things before I delete anything off my computer. It is just a hassel.

Mo,

I forgot to mention that Annedman told me in a PM he/she had succesfully restored the file through the download link I provided.

Tony,
That's good. I thought it would do. However, for all those with Restore Disks it's important to know that they don't have to Download Windows files. They have the Cabs on the Hard Drive. That's why I posted in this thread.
