Since my desktop has horribly died, I've been using my roomate's laptop.

    This thing is horrible.

I ran the usual adaware spybot spysweeper cwshredder. All good.

But what I did notice is that he had 120 running programs.

I fooled around with a few things and the computer ran nicely for a bit.

But once again its back to its old thing, when on lets say AIM, if I were to click a link in a profile, or if one is sent to me. Boom computer freezes.

Task manager can not be opened.

A hijack this log would be helpful I guessed... but whenever I go to save the log.. the program freezes and I cant save it.

    Ran a virus scan.. nothing

If you are ok with looking in the registry go to HKLM, SW, Microsoft, windows, current version, run and list back what is in there.

Sounds like hardware possibly to me .. If you've done all that to the software I cannot see there being any issues with that .. Are you getting any error messages?
My Old PC I have has bad capacitors on the MB and behaves something like that but it is random freeze ups not when you do the same thing each time

PRONoMgr.exe - System Tray icon for Intel PRO series ethernet adapters giving access to the diagnostic features

Not necessary in startup but nothing bad either.

    Have you done defrag,scandisk,and sfc?

Tried turning off most/all programs, then run for awhile and then start one or a few at a time and see what happens? 120 Programs?!! No! skip this unless further commented on by others!
