Whenever i am online, my Zonealarm firewall detects "svchost.exe" asking for permission to access the internet! If i deny, i am unable to browse...so i have to grant it access everytime i am online.
Could anyone tell me what it is? Is it some kind of "phone-home" stuff microsoft have put in XP?
    with regards,
    umesh

Normal running of XP will have several instances of svchost.exe running at a time. Bring up windows Task Manager, (Ctrl/Alt/Del) and look in the processes tab, you will see what I mean.
This link will explain a bit about it. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=314056

What I always didi in that instance was deny at first sight then watch your system closely for any troubles that may be attributed as a result of your action. It may be as simple as Antivirus updates engine or windows update engine trying to check the database...
