Hi, I saw a thread from 2002 with the same problem as me, ie. an error message "svchost .exe. has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the progam." It has caused problems like web links not working (e.g. when I clicked on the link to the Help for this site it wouldn't work - had to type the url into the address bar), and my email telling me that I can't send or reply to emails because I haven't enough space even when I have. I have to reboot the computer and try to get my emails sent before the error message pops back up on the screen.

I saw that reinstalling sp2 fixed the problem for that person, and would like to try that, but I don't know what sp2 is. Can someone tell me please? I'm not very technical, sorry.

    This is a great site.
    Thanks!

go to http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.zip , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please copy & paste its contents to the forum.

It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.
