    Welcome to TSG....

You can correct this error by using the Group Policy Editor for Windows XP. Use the following steps:
    ========
    1. Click Start, Run, type gpedit.msc and click OK.

    2. Select "User Configuration | Administrative Templates | System | Ctrl+Alt+Delete Options | Remove Task Manager".

    3. Double-click the Remove Task Manager option from the Group Policy menu.

You can then disable or set the policy to Not Configured. Disabling or setting this policy to Not Configured should solve the problem.

The title of this post is SVICHOSSST.exe

If you are seeing this app mentioned somewhere it looks very suspicious. And the reason for things being locked out, is most likely due to a malware infection.

Download, install and run a scan with HiJackThis

Copy/paste the created LOG file back here in a reply post for review.

I've asked that a Gold Shield review your log.

That has to be the longest list of running processes I have seen in a long time. The gold shield is going to have fun with this one.

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
    • Restart your computer
    • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually
    • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear
    • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter
    • Choose your usual account.
    • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
    • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
    • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to reboot.
    • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
    • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
    • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to the clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
    • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

Download AVG Anti-Spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop. Note for AVG Free anti-virus users only: this is not the same program that you already have, this is an anti-spyware program.

When the trial period expires it becomes feature-limited freeware but is still worth keeping as a good on-demand scanner.

    1. Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double click it to launch the set up program.
    2. Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG Anti-Spyware and update the definition files.
    3. On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
      • Next select the "Start Update" button. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
    4. Once the update has completed, select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
    5. Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
    6. Under "Reports"
      • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
      • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
Close AVG Anti-Spyware. Do Not run a scan just yet, we will run it in safe mode.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while AVG Anti-Spyware is scanning as it may interfere with the scanning process:

    1. Launch AVG Anti-Spyware by double clicking the icon on your desktop.
    2. Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
    3. AVG will now begin the scanning process. Please be patient as this may take a little time.
Once the scan is complete, do the following:
    4. If you have any infections you will be prompted. Then select "Apply all actions."
    5. Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
    6. Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left-hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file. This is important).
    7. Close AVG Anti-Spyware and reboot your system back into Normal Mode.

Please go HERE to run Panda's ActiveScan
    • You need to use IE to run this scan
    • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
    • A new window will open...click the Check Now button
    • Enter your Country
    • Enter your State/Province
    • Enter your e-mail address and click send
    • Select either Home User or Company
    • Click the big Scan Now button
    • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
    • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
    • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
    • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report

Come back here and post a new HijackThis log along with the logs from the AVG and Panda scans.

Click Here and download Killbox and save it to your desktop but don’t run it yet.

Rescan with HijackThis, close all browser windows except HijackThis, put a check mark beside these entries and click fix checked.

    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cust...ch/search.html

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cust.../www.yahoo.com

    F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe SVICHOSSST.exe

    O7 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System, DisableRegedit=1

    Then boot to safe mode:

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it.
    • Put a tick by Standard File Kill.
    • In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste each of the following lines one at a time:

      C:\WINDOWS\SVICHOSSST.exe

    • Click on the button that has the red circle with the X in the middle after you enter each file.
    • It will ask for confirmation to delete the file.
    • Click Yes.
    • Continue with that procedure until you have pasted all of these in the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box.
    • Killbox may tell you that one or more files do not exist.
    • If that happens, just continue on with all the files. Be sure you don't miss any.
    • Next in Killbox go to Tools > Delete Temp Files
    • In the window that pops up, put a check by ALL the options there except these three:
      • XP Prefetch
      • Recent
      • History
    • Now click the Delete Selected Temp Files button.
    • Exit the Killbox.

    Reboot back to windows normally.

Your Sun Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can exploit to infect your system.
Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

    Updating Java:
    • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u1.
    • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u1 allows end-users to run Java applications".
    • Click the "Download" button to the right.
    • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
    • The page will refresh.
    • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
    • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
    • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
    • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
    • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
    • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
    • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
    • Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.

Boot and post another HijackThis log please.

I'm also attaching a FixGUIBIRIN.zip file to fix the policies in the registry. Save it to your desktop. Unzip it and double click the FixGUIBIRIN.reg file and allow it to enter into the registry. Reboot the computer and let me know if the Task Manager and regedit are restored.
