    What's the skinny on nothing showing up (blank window) for system.ini and windows.ini in the System Configuration Utility?

    Thank you.

    You may have a empty system.ini or win.ini under your Widnow Directorty..
    You should able to see these two files under c:\windows or %windir%

    If the size is 0 or you can't find this two file then go to c:\windows\pss you will see two file

    system.ini.backup
    win.ini.backup

    These two file is your backup file.... try to copy them to c:\windows
    and rename system.ini.backup to system.ini
    and rename win.ini.backup to win.ini

    That's it..

    Thank you very much. I thought the system required these files to work properly? If the Sys Config Utility shows blank windows for these two, does this indeed mean that the system is running without them? Or are they simply not viewable via the Sys Config Utility?

    Those files already exist in the proper directory.

    Here is the system.ini

    ; for 16-bit app support

    [drivers]
    wave=mmdrv.dll
    timer=timer.drv

    [mci]
    [driver32]
    [386enh]
    woafont=dosapp.FON
    EGA80WOA.FON=EGA80WOA.FON
    EGA40WOA.FON=EGA40WOA.FON
    CGA80WOA.FON=CGA80WOA.FON
    CGA40WOA.FON=CGA40WOA.FON

    Here is the win.ini

    ; for 16-bit app support
    [fonts]
    [extensions]
    [mci extensions]
    [files]
    [Mail]
    MAPI=1
    CMCDLLNAME32=mapi32.dll
    CMC=1
    MAPIX=1
    MAPIXVER=1.0.0.1
    OLEMessaging=1
    [MCI Extensions.BAK]
    aif=MPEGVideo
    aifc=MPEGVideo
    aiff=MPEGVideo

    mpe=MPEGVideo
    mpeg=MPEGVideo

    mpv2=MPEGVideo
    snd=MPEGVideo
    wax=MPEGVideo
    wm=MPEGVideo
    wma=MPEGVideo
    wmv=MPEGVideo
    wmx=MPEGVideo
    wpl=MPEGVideo
    wvx=MPEGVideo
    [WAOL]
    SharedPath=C:\Program Files\Common Files\AOLSHARE
    AppPath=C:\Program Files\AOL 9.5
    [CybDefKeepSafe]
    ClientID={2CFCDED3-6770-4583-A205-236D4CBA46F3}

    Neither backup file exists in c:\windows\pss. The only files in thuis folder are as follows:

    boot.ini.backup
    OneNote 22007 Screen Clipper and Launcher .InkStartup
    QuickBooks Update Agent.InkCommon Startup
    RSS 2011.InkCommon Startup
