Can anyone help me? My 2 year old acer aspire 4gb RAM 320GB hard drive freezes after five mins of activiy, regardless of what program is open. Overheating may have been a problem as it was being used for about 12 hours straight.

Overheating can't be excluded at this stage, but it's more likely to be a failing drive if it's had prolonged use over a couple of years. I would backup all your user data to another drive or to several DVDs as soon as possible if you haven't already done so, then test the drive with the drive maker's diagnostic software. If you can't get the Windows version to run, you'll need to download the DOS version instead which runs from a bootable CD. The DOS version is an ISO file from which you create a CD using IMGBurn from here: http://filehippo.com/download_imgburn/

Then boot your PC/laptop from the CD you've made.
