system freezes trying to turn monitor back on

    Hello. I have my system set to turn the monitor off after a few minutes under the Display Power Management Props Power scheme sections.
    the problem is that after the monitor turns off and I move the move to bring it back up, I get a black screen and the system is frozen. I have to turn the system off and back on using the power button.
    I'm running win98SE. no other power saving settings are set.
    Can someone help me.
    by the way, I have no problem w/ the "Turn off Hard Disks" option or the screen saver option.

    you probably have standby settings in your bios , make sure they are set correctly
