system freezes

    when playing mp3 files, dvd's, and games, my computer freezes and i here a continuous tone from my speakers. i've tried reinstalling the drivers for my sound card, video card, i even reformatted my hard drive and installed xp pro. what could cause this problem.

    i appreciate the help

    my system specs are:
    Dell system
    1.7 gig pentium IV
    16xdvdrom, hp 200i 2x2x32 dvd burner
    80 gig Maxtor
    Soundblaster Audigy
    NVidia Geforce2 64MB
    640 MB RDRAM
    Lucent WinModem
    XP Pro
    Logitech Wireless Keyboard & Optical Mouse

    Hi and welcome.

    Sound or graphics card probs springs to mind, but it could be something else. Try reseating them and reinstalling drivers.
