System hangs while playing games in Direct3D mode

I have a celeron 366Mhz system with 128MB ram and 40Gb Seagate hard Disk.I have a dual boot system with Windows 2000 and windowsME. My pc always hangs when ever i
play games using Direct3D but if i play the games in normal mode no problem occurs.I am using nvidia TNT2 M64
display card with 32MB ram and Sound Blaster Live! Value sound card with latest driers. I am using DirectX8.

Hiya and welcome

It could be your Graphics card. There are some updates, and as you are using 2 different systems, I assume that you download each driver.

This is WinMe http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?PAGE=windows9x

This is Win2000 http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?PAGE=windows2000

Also, you may want to try this first. Right click My Computer and Choose Properties. Click Performance tab, then look at your Graphics acceleration. Lower this and see if the hanging stops.
