I am receiving the message "Your computer is infected!" in the windows update icon. I know that this computer had some viruses and malware. I have followed the instructions directly from a previous post titled "Solved: cannot remove SPYWARESTRIKE....help :)" Both adaware and ewido say I'm clean along with an online virus scanner. I think I have gotten rid of all the spyware but the icon is still popping up. If I click on it it doesn't take me to any sites, not windows update or spyware striker. It just keeps blinking. It also pops up in safe mode when I go into a personal account but not in the administrator account. I've been working for on this for about 3 days, I have become quite frustrated and am ready to boot the computer out my window :)

Here is the Hijackthis report from normal mode:

    http://noahdfear.geekstogo.com/click counter/click.php?id=1

*Save the file to your desktop.
*It is a self extracting file.
*Doubleclick the smitRem.exe and it will extract the files to a smitRem folder on your desktop.
*Do not do anything with it yet. You will run the RunThis.bat file later in safe mode

    * Now copy these instructions to notepad and save them to your desktop. You will need them to refer to in safe mode.

    * Restart your computer into safe mode now.

    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...2001052409420406?OpenDocument&src=sec_doc_nam

Perform the following steps in safe mode:

    * Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.

Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

    * Go to Control Panel > Internet Options. Click on the Programs tab, then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

    * Next go to Control Panel > Display. Click on the "Desktop" tab then click the "Customize Desktop" button. Click on the "Web" tab. Under "Web Pages" you should see an entry checked called something like "Security info" or similar. If it is there, select that entry and click the "Delete" button. Click OK then Apply and OK.

    * Restart back into Windows normally now.

    Post a new log.

As I said before I had already used the smitRem file, killbox, a registry fix, adaware, ewido, and a virus scan all in safe mode before I posted. I followed the instructions given in another post on this website. I tried your instructions listed above again and the popup box is still there.

    Any suggestions?

Here is the second log you requested:

SPYWARESTRIKE is a new variant of Spyaxe. Smitrem was recently updated to treat this type of infection. Wether you used the previous version of smitrem, we wouldn't know.

Turn Off System restore to flush the backup points that also are infected, then turn it back On.

To turn off Windows XP System Restore:

Note: These instructions assume that you are using the default Windows XP Start Menu and have not changed to the Classic Start menu. To re-enable the default menu, right-click Start, click Properties, click Start menu (not Classic) and then click OK.

    Click Start.
Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
    Click the System Restore tab.
Select "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" check box.
Click Apply. The following message appears:
As noted in the message, this will delete all existing restore points. Click Yes to do this.
    Click OK.

To turn On Windows XP System Restore:

    Click Start.
Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
    Click the System Restore tab.
Clear the "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" check box.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

System Restore will create regular backups of selected system files and program files.

You can also create a Restore Point on your own:

    Start-_All Programs->Accessories->System Tools-> System Restore

Follow instructions on Screen to create a restore point.

Here is some advise from our security Experts to avoid re-infection:
