    hi,

my system file usually runs around 344bytes. but, and i can't work out why it is doing this hence my post here, it keeps sticks around 115,000 - 150,000 bytes. the pc slows right down and it is only back to normal once i reboot.

i can't replicate the problem but am geting a tad frustrated having to reboot so often

its cpu usage stays at 0

    any thoughts?

You may have a bad app with a memory leak. What uses the most?

Firefox's clumsy programming is a common offender. "Firemin" was designed to help fix some of that problem.

    Hi and welcome.
    In addition to the above.
Post a Hjt log - so we can see what is running on your system.

    Hijack this 2.04
    • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
    • Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
    • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
    • Click on Install.
    • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
    • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
    • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
    • Click on Edit > Select All then click on Edit > Copy to copy the entire contents of the log.
    • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
    • DO NOT use the AnalyseThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
    • DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hi folks and thanks for your input!

As far as I am able to do and check Malwarebytes, Zone Alarm and AVG are all up to date, as is all other software i am able to update. MS updates also up to date as is Chrome.

after rebooting the system memory always drops back to normal. right now, i have just used serif web plus to update a website. web plus was peaking at a little over 130,000 K but this time system stayed (and is still) at 348k. Last time i tried to do the same update i just did, system mem usage shot up to over 150,000K and i had to reboot as pc froze.

Elvandil: regular software that uses up a lot of memory would be Serif Movie Maker, Serif Web Plus, Serif Page Plus, Chrome, Kodak Easyshare. However, by far the heaviest user of system resources would be Serif Movie Maker, especially when exporting videos.

Serif Web Plus, Serif Page Plus, Serif Movie Maker as you may know, are all resourse hungry programs - CPU and Memory.
Hardware is not my area of expertise and will have to let Elvandil check if your system specifications are enough to run the above.

Are you letting Windows manage the installed memory?
Right Click My Computer > Advanced > Performance.
Tick - Let Windows choose what's best for my computer.
    Apply - Ok.

In the General Tab - what is listed at the bottom right?
