Ok..I posted earlier about windows explorer shutting down and I was advised to do a system restore. SO I did.. well when it rebooted, it came up blank for a long time then my programs came up..except nothing is working. I can't even get system restore to work again. I can get AOL to come up and internet explorer but when I click on a link..nothing happens. I don't want to lose my whole system. Please help. I am using windows XP home edition.

I just read your post again and it seems you can use it so go here http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html and download this to its own folder (important) somewhere away from the desktop, then post a log back here for analysis ......

Seeing the current state of your Antivirus , you should reinstall ASAP since most of its services are not operating hence the 023 missing files.

I can't install any anti virus because it won't let me install any programs.
Would it be easier if I bought an external hard drive and made a back up then reformatted this hard drive?? Thanks again for your help

The question is, is your computer still at the same state as it was in your first post in this forum ?

Yes..I am running one of those online anti virus scans now. Nothing bad so far. I can't get a lot of pages to come up with my browser. If it requires another window to pop up..forget it. Only a few programs run. Nothing has changed since I first posted. Like I asked..could I buy an external hard drive and back up my info on it then reformat this one..would it be easier??

Ok..this was found on my computer with that online virus scan: TROJ_STARTPGE.KR

I went in and did what it said to do to delete it then ran the scan again and it was clean. Is there any way to repair the damage it has done? Thanks again to those helping me.. I really appreciate it.

I did another scan (actually 2 more) and nothing was found, but my system is in the same condition. Programs won't load (a few will) browsers aren't working right. Can't install any programs. System restore still won't come up. I get a blank white screen after trying a few times. I can't search..that won't work at all...comes up and is blank. Really..nothing has changed. I got rid of the virus but the system is still the same.
