I am unable to perform a system restore. Despite the fact that I have many restore points, when I attempt to perform a system restore, I get a message that states unable to perform system restore, system restore point not available. Coincidentally, I am occasionally receiving messages from my anti-virus program id'ing PUP's that have "system restore" in part of the file name.

System resore is an iterative process, that relies on a series of restores to provide a coplete one at any date, unless its a fresh restore point after a purge.

Therefore any problem in an earlier restore can prevent later ones working.

If you are getting warnings of adware/spyware/antivirus software that shows that the restore files are contaminated anyway, you must get rid of them all. You cannot restore them back without seriously reinfecting your system.

To purge them, simply turn off system restore, reboot and turn it back on again.
Control Panel - System - System Restore - turn off..... - OK
Reverse the process after rebooting.
