Hiya and welcome

I have just had a look here, and whilst it dosen't actually mention why, it tells you the registry entry:

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q170/0/86.asp

The following entry to run the System Tray is the only required Windows default entry:
Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Value: SystemTray
Value Type: REG_SZ
Value Data: SysTray.exe
Regards

eddie
