I have a northgate pc (now out of business) it came with xp. i guess it crashed, and now all i get is thr following: file is missing or corrupt <windows root>system32/hal.dll please install a copy of the above file.

northgate appears to be out of business, have called microsoft and they said to goto a page for form to order . i do not know what they wanted me to order as they give several options. i think i need a bootable disc. can you direct me to the correct next step?

    thank you
