Can any one recommend a good antivirus app to remove viruses on an android tablet or what is the best way to remove viruses and malware on these devices.

The only safe way to remove any malware on android is reset to factory settings

There are loads of antiviruses / antimalware programs for android.
Several listed on https://www.techradar.com/uk/news/the-best-antivirus-for-android-in-2018
Most offer a free limited, basic functionality with a paid for full service
My personal choice for best security & protection would be either Kaspersky or Eset

Really? Haven't seen it be like that. I used some stuff that is marked as the Google choice and it was always good.
