New here so um Hello...With that said, got a slight issue but I'll get the important stuff over first.

I am using Vista SP1 and have what I believe to be a malware issue. I currently have McAfee installed but will be deleting it once I find something I feel comfortable with. I refuse to use AVG as it allowed me to get several issues previously and I uninstalled it and swore never to use it again and most of the free programs I just don't trust.

Anyway, The main issue I am having is that the task manager is disabled when I log on. I have used RRT to remove restrictions several times after running Spybot and Mcafee scans that supposedly found issues but not the one I needed to remove.

    This is the problem signature:

Since reading this I have downloaded Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware and it found Malware by the name of Password stealer. I have since removed it and will soon be restarting the computer to see if it was the issue causing the problems.

Any help or knowledge for the future would be much appreciated thanks

EDIT: (this was posted elsewhere before I was told to make a topic) I believe I got rid of the Malware but I still have the task manager issue involving supposedly forcing me to close vista.

    Hi Devilpope,

May be the issue of the task manager was also caused by the malware, if "yes" and then you may need to do a system restore to the condition it was before malwares infected your system.

Do this if you think it got this problem during the malware infections.

    Hey,

Yeah it may have been. A restore is not an option. I used CC Cleaner and another registry tool and it deleted the restore points up to a day ago and I believe this may have been here longer.
I'm just going to be burning off all the video and mp3s that I have or putting them in on an external HDD and then reinstalling Vista.

    Thanks

    Tom

if you have a bug in any of them files. you will just reinstall them to a clean computer.
make sure they are bug free. (y)

"I used CC Cleaner and another registry tool and it deleted the restore points up to a day ago"

another reason why registry cleaners are NOT reccomended.
