When I press Ctrl-Alt-Del, the task manager box appears complete with all the tabs, but it shows no running programs, not even Explorer and Systray. I want to do my hard drive maintence but can't End Task anything because it's not there. I'm new to XP is there something I don't know about XP?...I never had this problem with ME....I'm not a tech head, please help

Do you have the Processes tab selected? (there is no "systray" in XP but you should see a list of running programs and processes).

Do the other tabs show entries, such as "Applications" (shows open web pages, for example)

By the way, you don't use the same method in XP as 9x. While you can end task most running programs, you will see a lot of services there that must remain running. You will need to know the difference.
