Hi and welcome. Let's have a look at a HijackThis log first.

    * Click here to download HJTsetup.exe
    • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
    • Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
    • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
    • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
    • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
    • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
    • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
    • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
    • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
    • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
    • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

lolwtf, there is a newer version of HijackThis available now. It is best to work with that.
Please delete the hijackthis.exe that you have now in the unzipped folder
Then download the newer version from the link that I provided above. You will find it in the "Program Files" folder. It will be "HijackThis v1.99.1
Then please post a HijackThis from the new version.
    Thank you.

    That's okay, no problem.

The first thing that I would advise you to do is to update your java version.
To do this, open up the Control Panel, click on "Add/Remove Programs", find the entry for jre1.5.0 under java, click the entry once to highlight it then click "Change/Remove" to uninstall it.
    Then go here:
    http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

Click the "Download" button next to
"Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 8"

You should be taken to a page that says,
    "J2SE(TM) Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 8"

Click to put a dot in the circle where it says, "Accept license agreement".

Then, from the "Windows Platform" box at the top of the list, click where it says, " Windows Online Installation (typical download size is ~MB), Multi-language".

    Choose to run the installation.

You will then have the latest version of java which will make your system less vulnerable to certain infection.

Please go ahead and do that now.

You will need to install the Service Pack2 for XP also but NOT YET. We must wait until we know that the system is absolutely clean first, otherwise we may run into problems with it. I will remind you of that later.

A note of caution: When you put sites into Internet Explorer's "Trusted Zone", you pretty much give that site total access to your computer to do whatever it may. A site doesn't really need to be in the Trusted Zone to operate correctly. Unless you are sure that you trust the site totally, I would suggest that you clear the Trusted Zone. Here's how:

Open up HijackThis, do a system scan only, and when it finishes place a check before the following lines:

    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.musicmatch.com

    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.musicmatch.com (HKLM)

Then make sure ALL windows are closed except HijackThis and hit the "Fix checked" button.
    Then exit HijackThis.

From the HJT log I really don't see any strange process running. I wonder if you could describe exactly what you witness that is an indication of something running all of the time. Is it that the hard drive light is blinking a lot as things get written to the drive without you doing anything? Do you hear the hard drive running while the pc is supposed to be idle? Is there some other indication? Knowing this may help to better diagnose a problem.

I would like to see a log from "silent runners".

Please RIGHT-CLICK HERE and Save As (in IE it's "Save Target As") to download Silent Runners.
    • Save it to the desktop.
    • Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
    • You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done, let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
    • Once you receive the prompt "All Done!", double-click the new text file on the desktop, copy that entire log and paste it here as you did the HijackThis log.
*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.
