How can I tell if I have to many 'Processes' running in the background? I have 40 items in the list, can I copy them so you can look at them? Is 40 too many? Thanks for the Help. I use Windows XP Pro.

download hijackthis from the link in my signature, save it to its own permanent folder. then run it, click the "scan" button. after its done scanning then the "scan" button changes to a "save log" button. click that, save the log and post it here. the log will contain your list of processes.

    what about
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SoundMan] SOUNDMAN.EXE and
    C:\WINDOWS\SOUNDMAN.EXE
i was told that soundman.exe can be part of realteks audio software but it can also be part of the W32.Gaobot worm. How can you tell the difference?
p.s sorry for butting in, i was just curious :p

where did you hear that? I can't find anything on it.

And if you have 512 megs of RAM your should be fine... if your computer is running slow you could download the 30 day trial of "speed up my pc" from the makers of Wintasks, I have it and it works pretty well.
