This is related to a post I made a few minutes ago. My wireless internet now does not work after cleanin up a recent virus. Whenever I try to open internet explorer ewido pops up trying to clean 'taskac.dll'. I click clean, but nothing happens it doesn't go away. I found the actual file on C:, but cannot delete it because it says it's being used.

That was the first thing I tried. There is no process running named taskac.

Where is the file located on c:\? System32?

Select the file, right mouse, properties.
Any information in the tabs as to what it belongs to?

The best thing to do would be to post back a HiJackThis log for review.

I have a feeling this line has something to do with the problem -

O20 - Winlogon Notify: taskac - C:\WINDOWS\system\taskac.dll

Btw, when I opened taskac.dll with notepad, and read through the coding, I found it had explorer.exe, ctfmon.exe, and winlogon.exe in it several times. I figured these were the three processes I'd need to end in order to delete it maybe? Dunno what else to do. I cannot change anything in the coding, I cannot delete it, and there are still 4 registry strings that I cannot delete either.

That's one of the them, the other is
O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {7697DB96-5DA3-44F2-BC97-AD35E5F4CEDC} - C:\WINDOWS\system\taskac.dll

Use the instructions in this post
(replacing the file names with YOUR infected ones).

Then, reboot and post back another log. There are still a few entries that need cleaning up.

I've only found 1 infected file though. What would I put for the other file path?

Ok, I ran the vundofix and just hit enter when it asked for a second file path. I rebooted and found that the taskac.dll file is now gone. However, when I run ewido, it is still finding 4 bad objects in the registry, and it can't remove them.

I found the keys and subkeys in my registry and tried deleting them manually, but get an error, "unable to delete all specified values" I was able to delete the values in two strings so their just blank, but I can't get rid of it all.

Post another HJT log please.

Also, what keys/subkeys/values are you finding in the registry?

And, you ran the Panda scan?

The full fix looks like this

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
  • This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
  • After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
  • Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
  • You will first be presented with a warning and a list of forums to seek help at.
    it should look like this
    VundoFix V2.15 by Atri
By pressing enter you agree that you are using this at your own risk
  • At this point press enter one time.
  • Next you will see:
Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
    Then Press Enter
  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
    • C:\WINDOWS\system\taskac.dll
  • Press Enter,
  • Next you will see:
Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum staff
    Then Press Enter,
  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
    • C:\WINDOWS\system\caksat.*
If you have a script blocker running, you may get a warning about a malicious script. Allow the script to run. It is not malicious.

  • The fix will run then HijackThis will open.
  • In HijackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:

    • O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {7697DB96-5DA3-44F2-BC97-AD35E5F4CEDC} - C:\WINDOWS\system\taskac.dll

      O20 - Winlogon Notify: taskac - C:\WINDOWS\system\taskac.dll

[*]After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis and Press any key to Force a reboot of your computer.
[*]Pressing any key will cause a "Blue Screen of Death" this is normal, do not worry!
[*]Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HijackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

I tried doing the Panda scan but the page came up with an error and it wouldn't work.
