Okay, I've Googled this and tried a couple of websites looking for an answer, but so far no luck. At times, for no appartent cause, everything in my taskbar will suddenly become completely non-responsive. I can click away all I want on "Start", on quick launch items, on minimized programs, on icons in the system tray ... nothing, nada, zilch. When I go into the control panel and click on "Taskbar & Start Menu", the same ... no response. It just sits there in sullen indifference (that last bit is peotic licence). The only cure is a reboot.
    Can anyone shed some light?
    Thanks!!

Sounds like it's sort of freezing on you. Could be malware related if your computer is getting stuck like that. I had a similar problem once.

I'd post a HJT log here just to be safe, and run a spyware/virus scan to make sure your system is clean.

Freezing like this can be caused by malware.

Are you sure it's stuck? Is the disk activity light blinking? Sometimes the machine gets busy doing various things and does not respond to immediate commands. However, if you see the light blinking it will probably get around to your key inputs, sooner or later. When you think it's stuck, go get a cup of coffee or something and check it again in 5-10 minutes.

Thanks for the input folks!! I'm running XP Pro SP2 on an AMD Athlon 64 bit 3000+ (1800 MHz) with 1 Gig of Ram. The Video Card is a RADEON X300. The system's been upgraded fairly recently. I had a crash recently, so I have been reinstalling all of my apps. I just clicked on "Sysyem Restore" to see what I jhave installed recently ... but System Restore doesn't work!!
    Hmmmm ....
I'll post the HJT log this evening after work.

did you notice the little fires..one is your cpu the other is a hard drive...thats why your system hangs...start by unplugging from the wall ...open case and blow out the dust bunnies and in some cases dust rhinos ;) ....then with the case still open plug it back in and check to see that all the fans are spinning...
BEFORE TOUCHING ANYTHING INSIDE THE CASE GROUND YOURSELF BY TOUCHING BARE METAL ON THE CASE

I'm done for the nite I will check back tomorrow

you may need to install a 120 mm fan in the front of the case pulling cool air into the case and blowing across the harddrive
