hey, I want to change two things about my telnet server:

    1) ' welcome to microsoft telnet ', how do I change that welcome message ?

    2) how do I get my server to run a console program whenever a client connects on a specific port ?

    cheers in advance.

first off... I really don't sugest using telnet over the internet.. It is not secure at all.. If this is just over a LAN, then it should be fine ( depending on who is on your LAN of course ) If this is over the net, I would look into SSH, it is very secure..

as for your questions, there is probably a setting in the server to change the MOTD.. look for a text file or a setting if you have a GUI interface to set up the server..

To run a program when you hit a specific port, a login script would be able to handle that.. I'm not proficient enough to help you with the login scripts for your telnet server, but I'm sure you can find some information on it in the help file or by google'n.

You could try asking at the applications section of TSG if this is a 3rd party app..

    good luck :D

yah, i know about the security problems with telnet - but have never heard of ssh. But does it allow people on different opperating systems to connect with *default* software. That is the beaty of telnet, pretty much every os ( linux, windows, mac ), all come with a telnet client... Can I do the same with ssh ?
