Hi I'm currently looking to buy a second hand laptop and wondered if it was possible to make windows say its a better spec then it really is. If this is possible is there any way to thoroughly check the computers spec?

Well if there is a will there is a way..It's possible that you can "fake " the specs. But how about looking into the BIOS and check out the amount of RAM , CPU speed. etc... That is not easy to fake..

I've seen more often that Windows under-stated the machine I was looking at when looking at the "System Information".So,the BIOS check is best for the key hardware.
You can also download aida32 and copy it over to a CD and run it from there.I find it to be a valuable tool when I am checking out other people's systems.Just drop the CD in and go...
(But of course the system has to have a CD-ROM,which not all laptops have)
