I am having trouble figuring out how to split some data into separate columns. I have a column that holds numeric dates (example: 01/01/04) - I would like to use the text to columns tool to split this into 3 columns (example: column 1 "01", column 2 "01", and column 3 "04"). It looks like it should be able to do it from the example grid, but it is not working. Can anyone give me step by step instructions with which boxes to check etc...?

Select delimited fields, and select the delimiter as the "/" character.

    slight variation:
    highlight the column
    format
    text to column
    choose delimited
    choose delimiter as /
next - in destination field click on button on right side
    pop up comes up
click on column b (or first column of 3 for data to show up) to highlight it
    finish

in excel XP (office XP) anyways, the last step was needed to properly see the first column after the conversion was complete, otherwise it tried to overwrite column A (the source data column) unsuccessfully
    - result was no change in column A but second and third number correctly shown in columns B and C

ie the sample grid showed what you wanted but not what you got

    Hi Coach!

You can change the lines in your signature to active links by following the instructions here:

I was gonna go to those sites to see what you're up to, but I'd have to copy, then paste into my browser address bar. I'm lazy!!

    lookin good Coach!

i'd change the page title to something more descriptive though

in the task bar, just shows as ... New Page 1
think you have the page titled but not the frame page
    (LOL good old MS)

open the frame set in FP
click on frames page html at the bottom
change 'new page 1' to whatever is more descriptive
    save

    or r-click on the page
    frame properties
frames page ... (bottom right, above ok, cancel, etc)
    general
    title: change to whatever
    save
