Hello
I am looking for the best antivirus but I don't know which one to use. What kind of criterion should I use ?
I have some idea:
1. Check notes of different software pages but which ones are the best (objective) ?
2. Check reviews of different pages but again which ones are the best ? What kind of criterion should I use ? The most popular pages ?
I know that question is difficult to answer but maybe you know some pages with excellent and objective reviews ?
Regards

For many reasons.

I've been using it for a couple of years. Never been infected since. (Of course, I do use common sense before relying on an antivirus)

It has always been very fast to scan my entire system (10 minutes!!!). That's a plus for me as the more time it will take to scan a computer, the less I'll be tempted to do a scan.

It's very easy on system resources. Ideal for a slow computer.

Virus definitions are downloaded automatically many times a day, without any slowing down. You don't even notice it.

ThreatSense.

Its reputation is excellent among power users.

Easy to use and to configure.

I like the interface. It's simple.

You wont get bothered with pop-ups all the time, like with some other popular antivirus programs.

Etc.

1. How do you know your PC is not infected now ?
Because I have experience in malware detection and use more than one tool to detect it, like online scanners, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, SuperAntiSpyware, SpywareBlaster and HijackThis. Plus, my system is fast and reliable. No bugs whatsoever. I don't go to porn sites and do not download anything illegally (P2P, Torrents...). My Windows Updates are all up to date (the latest ones came in this morning) and all my security software is always kept up to date. I do not open e-mails from senders I do not know (spam) and do not open every attachment before being sure they are safe. And, I use common sense when surfing the Web.

2. Here you can see there are some antivirus programs better than NOD32 for 'Updates': http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com/
You won't find two websites with the same reviews. So, I don't give a damn!

3. 'Its reputation is excellent among power users.' How do you know this ? Here you have an example of software pages the reputation of NOD32 is not so good: http://majorgeeks.com/NOD32_Antivirus_System_d3704.html
I don't see the comments you are refering to but either way, I don't give a damn. I know NOD32's real reputation. Besides, in your link, a 3.69 rating out of 5 is not so bad!

And by the way, what are you looking for exactly? In post #3, you're saying that you are using NOD32. Are you having problems with it?

I'm not saying NOD32 is perfect. You still got to use your head when surfing the Web. But it's a great complement to have when using common sense. It has plenty of advantages over other popular antivirus programs out there: speed, reliability, low system resource consumption, excellent heuristic capabilities.

I know I will not find two similar reviews and that is why I asked if you know some reliable reviews page.
There are not reviews, just to see the program note: http://majorgeeks.com/NOD32_Antivirus_System_d3704.html If 1274 person vote not well for this program there must be something.
No, I don't have problems with NOD32 and I am happy with it. But maybe there is something better.

I don't think there will be 100 different answers. You will get some results you can think the users prefer this program over 100 votes.

Hello..
Hey I also prefer Kaspersky. It is the best anti virus. I think MacAfee and Norton are also good. Everybody will give you different opinion about best anti virus because there are different point of view.

I personally believe there is no "best" antivirus. Antivirus programs mainly rely on virus signatures, that means the company would have to have captured that particular virus, and derive a signature from it. And no one company has captured ALL the viruses in existance, thats why there is a site called VirusTotal that scans your uploaded file with 39 antivirus programs. So if you per chance encounter some virus unknown to your installed antivirus program, you are out of luck.

I too use NOD, because it has ThreatSense. I think it is behavioral detection. So it detects new viruses based on suspicious actions. NOD isn't alone that uses behavior detection methods, other vendors now have similar methods too, but I think NOD was one of the first ones to do so.

The best way I found is to periodically do additional online scans by other vendors, like TrendMicro's Housecall, Panda's ActiveScan or BitDefender's online scan.

I agree with lunarlander that there is no such thing as the best antivirus. However there are a few things that I checked when I decided upon the solution to keep: speed, power of detection and ease of use.

I have t say that Nod seemed a little light for me, I had the sensation of insecurity whit it installed. Kaspersky let a virus on my Pc and I had it rebuilt. So the best solution for me , the one that is working smoothly now is Bitdefender Internet Security 2010. It's also rated pretty high..but my choice was entirely based on my experience with it. So if you want, give it a try. (y)
