Chocolate my favourite pastime

facts about chocolate

Chocolate is Made: from the sweetened seeds of cacao (Theobroma). (Note that small amounts of caffeine occur naturally in cacao beans). After the seeds are removed from their pods they are fermented, dried, roasted. Grinding allows the cocoa butter and liquor to be separated. The chocolate liquor is refined and if milk powder, sugar, etc. are added refined again. The final step is called conching - heating and blending the chocolate to make it smooth. It can be dark, milk, unsweetened or white.

Chocolate Liquor: is produced by grinding the cocoa bean nib (center) to a smooth, liquid state. The chocolate liquor can then be cooled and molded into blocks also known as unsweetened baking chocolate. The liquor and blocks contain roughly 53% cocoa butter.

Ingredients -
1 bar of cooking chocolate
1 pack rice crispies
1 set of fairy cake cases

Method

Melt the chocolate in a heat-proof bowl oversitting in top of a pan part-filled with boiling water (but don't let the water touch the bowl).
Once the chocolate has completely melted, take the bowl out of the pan and stir in the rice crispies a few at a time, until all are coated and the chocolate is used up.
Spoon a dollop of mixture into each cake case and put on a baking tray to cool.
Once cooled - either eat or store in an airtight container.
