I received this message while installing a USB driver. I have an 80GB External USB 2.0 hard drive attached that was working great a few days ago. I logged on one day to find this device "unrecognized". When I checked the device manager, it said that the driver was missing (?!). I searched for the driver on the MS website, and the device manager seemed to find a suitable one, but upon install I got the message above.

I found the old driver on my system – which seemed odd to me, deleted it, tried to reinstall and received the same message.

I understand that USB 2.0 is backwards compatible, plus it was working previously, so it seems strange that it suddenly died.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.
