The problem with helping our kids with reading.

It must be nice to have parents that are fluent in English and can read to their kids at a young age.
But those of us that have parents that speak other languages besides English or French, do have an advantage, even if we can't speak the parents mother tongue, we still understand it.
It would be expecially hard for us when we started school and in grade two we started Phonics. We would bring homework home and wanted help from our parents.
Some of the parents could hardly read English. Two write a cheque, they would have the numbers that had to be written out on a piece of paper with them all the time. Then after having written enough cheques these numbers were memorized.
We do immigrate people to this country every year, and there should be provisions when these students start school. Such as special programs. When I went to school there was nothing of the kind.
