    Hi,

    Whenever I try to load things such as files I've downloaded, and most applications I get the error "the service cannot accept control messages at this time". Can anyone help me out? I know a bit about computers but I've got no idea what's going on and it's really frustrating.

    Have you tried disabling your antivirus?

    Yeah :) that works fine for the programs/applications I've tried, I don't know about the rest, but it's not really very practical for everyday use

    You might want to try a Clean Boot procedure to find out which application is interfering in Normal Mode. Run it for both Services and Startup items.

    Can't run msconfig to get Clean Boot up because of the dreaded error message. :(

    Can you open any programs on your computer? Can you run any .exe files?

    I can run programmes I've already got installed, like Firefox and Skype, but others it seems to struggle with, some are ok and some aren't.

    Let's try two fixes: LNKFix and EXEFix

    Unzip the fix and extract the .reg file to the desktop. Double-click it to merge it to the registry. Note that you need to be an Administrator to apply this fix.

    Restart the computer.

    If the fix only opens as a text file, right-click it and select Open With > Choose Program... Then, select the Registry Editor.

    If the Registry Editor is not in the list, browse to C:\WINDOWS and select regedit.

    After all this, if still no success, I would begin to suspect malware.

    In that case, you'll need to click on Report and kindly ask to be moved to the Virus & Other Malware Removal forum. If possible, be sure to provide the appropriate reports in that forum after reading THIS. From there, be patient. The malware removal experts are very busy! You should get an answer within the next 48 hours.

    Still get the same error when trying to run the files, is it still worth me restarting? I don't think they've had a chance to actually work haha

    You need to restart the computer when applying these registry fixes.

    I know that, but I can't use them because the error message comes up... How do you know when/if they've done something? Like what are they meant to do? Sorry for being stupid haha

    You only get a confirmation that the .reg file has been correctly merged to the registry. However, since you don't seem to be able to do anything more than before, I'd say it's still not the right solution.
