I went out and plonked S$308 on Windows Vista Ultimate (OEM) and have yet to install because of what I've read about X-Fi and Vista.

    So far for my system,

    Dell Dimension 9150
    • Pentium D 830 3Ghz w/ Dual Core Technology (2MB L2 Cache, 800Mhz FSB)
    • Intel 945P Chipset
    • 1GB (2x512) DDR2 533Mhz SDRAM
    • ATI Radeon X600
      [*]SoundBlaster Xi-Fi XtremeMusic
    • 160 GB SATA HD
    • 80 GB SATA HD
    • Philips DVD +/- RW DVD8701
    • TSSTcorp DVD-ROM TS-H352C
    • Logitech G5 Laser Mouse
    • XBOX 360 Controller for Windows
    • Epson Perfection 3590 Scanner
    • Canon Pixma iP3000 Printer
    • Dell 1905FP UltraSharp Monitor
[*]Dell Preinstalled internal 13 in 1 USB 2.0 Card Reader
[*]Dell USB Multimedia Keyboard (I can't determine the model number)
      [*]Dell Preinstalled Firewire Card

I have all the drivers that have been found to be working great with Vista (so says other users) except for X-Fi and the last 3 Dell components (that I really hope Windows Update will have - anyone had any experience here?)

Anyway, I started this thread because its hard to find any concrete user experiences with X-Fi and Windows Vista and its confusing reading about Creative posting ALchemy (??) and such.

This thread is for anyone who has solid updates / experiences with X-Fi and Vista to keep us X-Fi users updated. (The creative forums are crap)

Any news so far or are we still in the deep as X-Fi users?

I had the current beta drivers from creative running with vista and my x-fi extreme gamer card, sound wise, it was 'ok', but i had problems with my microphone (which I use a lot).
So until creative release some fully capable stable drivers i've temporary removed my x-fi card and am using the realtek on board audio - which is working perfectly at the moment.

Problem is my computer does not come with onboard sound.

cliffg: Could you kindly define 'ok' - Does the sound still stutter, etc?

magtech: Does the sound come out crystal clear like in XP? Additionally, do the bundled applications with Creative X-Fi run well with it? Thirdly, what version number of the beta driver do you use?

Thank you all for your responses!

If anyone else has anything to add, please do. Thanks!

when I say 'ok', i mean yeah it can stutter in places, but for general useage (not games), and the occassional mp3.. it's ok.. but you can tell it's not superior sound..
The version I have is the current version on their website.. (not sure of ver no.).
