I just purchased ThePhotoStick and it says to 1. plug into a usb slot 2 From file explorer, double click on ThePhotoStickWINDOWS.exe 3 click go. I can’t figure out where file explorer is and can’t find ThePhotoStickWINDOWS.exe . I have windowsXP. Can anyone help me?
When you plug it in it will show up as a separate drive with a different letter designation in "My Computer". Double click on ThePhotoStick drive and then you should see the thephotostickwindows.exe file there. "My Computer" is, in effect, file explorer because that's where you can navigate to various things on the drive. It's the equivalent to "This PC" in newer versions of Windows.
Thank you! But when I do that it says the disc in drive N is not formatted, do you want to format it now. I say no because I’m afraid it will take away the software on the photo stick . I tried it before and just tried it again. I reached out to photo stick and they sent new ones which do the same thing. Again Cookiegal Thanks for the response!
You definitely don't want to format the drive. It sounds like you have a lot of partitions. Are you sure you're clicking on the correct one? Have you tried different ports?
Does it show up as ThePhotoStick N(:) in My Computer or just as a blank drive named N? Perhaps a screenshot of what you're seeing would be helpful.
It just shows a blank removable disk (N). I put it in different ports and all of the letters say insert a disk and N still says it's not formatted even though I moved the photo stick. I just think my computer is too old and I'm too old to figure it out. I don't know how to screen shot or update and frankly I just purchased it and shouldn't have to. They are 128 GB. They said click and go. I'm going to return them. Thank you so much for trying to help me. I give up.
Is your XP 32-bit or 64-bit and does it have all of the updates installed?
I suspect the PhotoStick is formatted exFAT which is not recognized if it doesn't have a particular update installed KB955704 which is no longer available for 32-bit (it is available for 64-bit for whatever reason).
If you insert the stick and right click the N drive and select properties does it say it uses exfat?
Almost 2 years ago someone tried to find this update. I managed to find it and archived on a USB stick. I just checked the stick that I thought I put it on and I have it.
If you send me a personal message, with an email address, I will send it to you by email or upload it to google drive and give you a link to download it.
Just let me know if you prefer email with it attached or a link to download from my google drive account.
Mine is 128GB and I just purchased them and I'm going to return them. They cause me too much trouble. I'm not computer savvy and my computer is an old XP with no support anymore. Thanks for your help plodr!
I agree. It's simple to just transfer them over to a USB stick as Liz said. That's how I do my back-ups, I copy both the documents and pictures folders to a USB drive but on XP everything is under My Documents so you can just copy that folder and get your documents backed up at the same time or pick and choose.
However, having said that, USB flash drives or sticks are not a good method for back-up as they are not meant for long-time storage but mainly for transfers so you should back up to an external hard drive to be more secure.
I already have an external hard drive that I copy to, but the photo stick ad made it look so easy and it doesn't copy duplicates etc. I just read how to return them and it says if there is nothing wrong with the stick, no refund. Returns more than 30 days including shipping both ways, no refund and an RMA is needed and I requested it, but of course it's the weekends I may be in for a battle. They determine if the stick is good and if it is, no refund they don't return the stick. If I would have read that up front,I never would have wasted my money. Thank you Cookiegal and Liz for all your help. I really shouldn't buy technical stuff because I can't follow through.
Did you at least get them for the half price special they have on right now? Why did you purchase more than one?
It's a shame but if you can't return them you might as well take plodr's offer. All you would need to do is install the file on your desktop and double-click on it to run it to install the update which includes the necessary driver that should enable using the sticks. Once the update is installed, it should truly be 'plug and go' to use them.
I actually returned them for a refund. If they give me trouble I will dispute through PayPal. I have 180 days to do that. I bought one and got the 2nd for 50% off. I think the 1st one was 50% off already. It was 119.95 for 2. I was planning to give one to my daughter if they worked as stated. It was late at night reading Facebook and the photo stick looked so good and easy that I didn’t research it beforehand. My mistake. Now I’ve read some reviews that they don’t work and they formatted them and use them as usb disks. You live and learn. But I’m so glad I found kind people like you and Liz to try to help me. Thank you so much!
