I think a thermal imaging camera would help me with a situation. I'm looking for the least expensive option.
I live in Manhattan. Someone drove up to my apartment complex's property & threw a cat out. The cat has been wandering around for over six weeks. We have a lot of plants & bushes so there are tons of places for the cat to hide spread out over several blocks. I want to find it before it gets run over.
Don't just say to rent one, because I'm not a gadget person & wouldn't know what to rent (or buy.) I need the cheapest & easiest device, specific recommendations please.
This is New York City, animal control doesn't get involved. The cat has been seen by all of our 15 buildings in & out of vegetation. The cat's on the move, never seems to stay anywhere very long, probably out of fear. This is a house cat that doesn't belong on the street. (We happen to have a cat rescuer that lives here, so she does have a trap. The cat has never gone in or eaten the food that she leaves & we don't know the cat's "schedule.") It turns out that dumping pets that were adopted to accompany people as they sheltered in place during covid is becoming "a thing."
Yets, it's a shame that this will become a thing. It's bad enough animals get abandoned when people move or they just don't match their new couch or something stupid like that.
Question.... do you happen to know of any local pet rescue/ shelter groups that could assist? (Like on social media). Here in my city (Arl, TX), I am on two city social groups. Anytime someone needs help with pets they are pretty quick to offer help; or point you in the right direction.
They may already have what they need to help find this cat; get them to safety; and not lead to spending some money that maybe you didn't intend on spending.
I volunteer with the ASPCA, who hasn't reopened yet since the pandemic. But the shelters here deals more with cruelty & hoarder cases. If anyone had a device that I described, it would be the ASPCA field people, who go out to rescue animals after catastrophies.
I got this idea by watching Tia Torres of Pit Bulls & Parollees a few weeks ago. Tia was lent one of these devices by another rescue in Texas when they were looking into a foresty area to find wolves & wolf dogs that had been abandoned. She posted that on the Villalobos Facebook page.
I even reached out to a hunting group who hasn't responded yet (I'm trying to think out of the box!)
Next, I'm going to try Nextdoor. Not ready to give up.
Ah! Ok. Sounds like you have thought of similar things.
I know some home inspectors have some thermal imagining equipment. Here in Texas not so much; but definitely where you are. They want to assess the insulation effectiveness foe when it gets really cold.
Don’t know if you know one. It was kind of an off the cuff suggestion.
