I posted that awhile ago in the thread about Katrina over in CivDeb....it is disgusting! (n)

I mentioned I thought it was almost comical how they sometimes gave the same PIN number to multiple people....and they had to practically race each other to get to Western Union first! Losers!

The red cross is an organization I donate to often .. It really steams me.. Those people should be made to work rebuilding New Orleans and should have the dirtiest jobs! Just venting! ...

Hi Marlene :)

don't you guys mean milk? or is this some american term i haven't come acrossed yet?

Don't forget about the funds that were available for the WTC victims too. There were a lot of people claiming lost ones etc from that.

But I think the most stupidest thing I have seen so far was that there was a photo of a lady proudly showing her credit card to the photographer, and the person didn't even remove the numbers before it was printed... There was a lot of fraud on that credit card number....

Shadow Bea,

Here in England - charity is big business.

Scope - the charity for people with Cerebral Palsy ( - formerly called 'spastics') is advertising for a website designer on a starting salary of $90,000. - not bad money.

In 1997 - the head of Oxfam ( which I think operates in the US, and which you may be familiar with) .... donated £ 1 million from his personal account - to help the so called socialist Blair get elected. Now Oxfam is particularly outspoken in their opposition to Blair over the Iraq War. Surely that money could have been better spent in the Third World. The fact it wasn't should lead to serious questions being asked of Oxfam's leadership ... but it won't.

Earlier in the year - the Charity Commissioners formally warned three leading charities over the tone of their tv adverts ... ie they implied that unless donations were immediiately forthcoming ...the charity would collapse. In each instance the charities concerned - had over $180 million in reserve.

If my memory serves me correctly, 'spastics' was more a insult to bring people down. It wasn't a real definative term to use.

Tidus,

FWIW :

There were until 1997 charity shops with the s/front 'Spastics Society' whether you believe it or not. The name Scope which I referred to was 'devised' by a PR Co around that time.
