First of all i apologise for my lack of computer knowledge.
A few months back i had an infection that was eventually sorted by those nice peole at Malwareremoval.com. It was WinAntivirusPro 2006.
Now every time i run a virus check (I've got AVG free, Spybot search & destroy, AdawareSE personal, and have Zonealarm firewall) it picks it up again. Then last night i noticed on my control panel screen, in full colour staring right at me was the WinAntivirusPro 2006 icon!!!
On the virus report, it says it was in "restore". Does this mean it's been hiding there all along? I havn't had any problems with our PC yet, it's running normal (no pop ups or diverted home page) probably because nobody's opened the icon>
Also i havn't tried doing a scan in safe mode, could this get rid of it?
I can't copy a HJT report as i'm at work at the moment, so you may hear from me again later!
    Thanks, C.Y.

It was in restore (i think this is what it said) but i'll have to run another check when i get home from work later today. I also remember it found 3 examples of the virus.
I think it was spybot that found it. It's usually the first one i use that picks it up, then the other 2 pick up nothing. AVG, Adaware SE personal, and spybot have all picked it up recently.
Another thing that's confusing me is although the icon is there on the control panel screen, theres no sign of it in 'Add or remove programs'!!

    • Download WinPFind
    • Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"
    • Extract it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
    • Dont do anything with it yet!

    Reboot into Safe Mode
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

    Doubleclick WinPFind.exe
    • Now Click "Start Scan"
    • It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!
    • Once the Scan is Complete
      • Reboot back to Normal Mode!
      • Go to the WinPFind folder
      • Locate WinPFind.txt
      • Place those results in the next post!.

    heres the attached scan...
if i don't reply to you, it's because i can't get back onto the pc. My wife is a playright and urgently has to re-write a script for tomorrow.
Your help is very much appreciated.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.

    1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop.
    • Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
    • Extract avenger.exe to your desktop

    2. Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

    3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.
    • Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
    • Now click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script"
    • Paste the text copied to clipboard into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V).
    • Click Done
    • Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
    • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
    4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
    • It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
    • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
    • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
    • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
    5. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply.

    when it reboots

please go to http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/forum/index.php?board=1.0 and upload these files so I can examine them and distribute them to antivirus companies.
Just press new topic, fill in the needed details and just give a link to your post here & then press the browse button and then navigate to & select the files on your computer, If there is more than 1 file then press the more attachments button for each extra file and browse and select etc and then when all the files are listed in the windows press send to upload the files ( do not post HJT logs there as they will not get dealt with)

    Files to submit:

    C:\avenger\backup.zip

    Thanks Derek
I'll do this this evening (at work again now).
I'm curious to know what infection i've got?
also last night on shutting the pc down a blue screen came up with instructions which included the following:
"Windows has experienced a problem. if this is the first time you've seen this screen reboot you r computer, if you've seen this more than once" and there were some instructions, which mentioned i could lose all files if not backed up!
I couldn't remember the exact text, but i've had this screen come up approx 4 times now!!
do you know what this could be?
    Thanks.

the blue screens are normally a sign of driver corruption but can be viruses or spyware as well

after you have carried out my previous instructions try this

    * Run ActiveScan online virus scan here

    - Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
    - A new window will open...click the Check Now button
    - Enter your Country
    - Enter your State/Province
    - Enter your e-mail address and click send
    - Select either Home User or Company
    - Click the big Scan Now button
    - If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
    - It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
    - When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
    - When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
Post the contents of the Panda scan report, along with a new HijackThis Log
