I bought A Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit Hewlett Packard laptop in April 2009 1 yr warranty. A few days ago the laptop was sitting idle and a black screen came up saying this copy of windows is not genuine. When I first got it I had it registered and the whole bit. I live in a small town and the local computer repairing co had no idea what to do.
I cant get windows to come up and cant even get my safe mode to come up. Thank goodness I had my trusty xp as backup. Please can anyone tell me what to do or what site can help remember im a beginner;)

it may be a virus/malware - quite a few do that
but you cannot get it into safe mode or run windows

Do you have any recovery CDs at all ?
Do you have all your data off and backed up?

do you have access to another PC with a CD writer ?

Call HP and they should be able to help, it is still under warranty.

Gen55 I notice the similarity in the account names.... are you also Jenny54 who is the first poster in the thread?

I can see the location is the same.....MO

Why did you have to start a new account here at TSG? (We can get you all straightened around about the old account etc....I have asked that Cookiegal or LauraMJ, one of the Admins, contact you about it later, OK?)

I'll just add this here. Please let us know which name you want to keep and we can either delete the other, or merge the one you don't want into the one you do want, whichever your prefer. :)
