How do I create a form that allows the users to assign unique pictures to an individual record within Access 97?
E.g. Jpg, bmp's, gifs etc
Cheers
PS I also want the ability to allow the user to be able to elect a unique picture to that record as well as having the ability to view the picture at a later date.
I'm not sure about 97 but with Access 2000 open the form in design view, click on Insert at the top, click on picture or Object. If you choose the picture, you will then have to show the path to the picture. If you choose the object you will have a choices of the objects you want to insert. Choose the type of object, then choose the path. Once it is inserted into the form you can then place the object or picture where you want it.
Hope this helps, if it doesn't work with Access 97 you might email Dreamboat for she is the expert in Office 97.
I want to assign different picture types to unique records e.g.
Say I had a database full of employees details.
On one of my forms I had the following
Staff ID:
Staff First Name:
Staff Surname:
Age:
Job Description:
PICTURE OF THEM IN VARIOUS PICTURE FORMATS (bmp, jpg, gif)
Now in order to assign a picture of the person to their specific details, I need to have a unique field that can hold picture formats within a table (for that employee).
I thought this would be an easy task (e.g. only a matter of assigning an OLE Object in a table and then assigning a picture to their records).
However, using this theory, I can only seem to assign BMPS to an employees details (as they are the only file types access seems to view).
CAN ANYONE SUGGEST ANYTHING AS I NEED THIS SYSTEM TO BE SLIGHTLY FLEXIBLE.
IF SO MY EMAIL ADDRESS IS MATTHEW.SAUNDERS@BSI-GLOBAL.com
First, make sure you've installed ALL converters and filters with Office 97.
Second, understand that inserting pictures can bloat your DB and that instead you might want to consider inserting a hyperlink to a designated folder where the graphics are stored.
Do you otherwise have programs that are capable of viewing the JPGs and GIFs that are associated to these files by default? i.e., Photodraw, Photoeditor. BMPs may be available because you've got Paint to view them with. What happens when you double-click a JPG or GIF file from Windows Explorer? If it asks you which program, it means they're not associated.
I may be able to find out more if you ask more questions.
My file types are set against software packages that do display file types of theis nature (e.g. bmp, jpg). The only problem is access seems to like only bmps to assign against unique records.
Do you know how I can assign jpgs against unique records???
When inserting an ole object into a form (to allow pcitures to be assigned as unique records), access will only view bmps. any other picture type that I come across just inserts as an icon.
For example when inserting bmps they display as the should do (an image of the picture the user inserted is displayed).
But if I then decided to insert a gif file access diplays a preview of the file (e.g. it looks like a zoomed version of what you would see in the windows explorer screen).
Do you know how I can make access 97 insert various picture types to unique records (with the ability to view them)???
What did you try that didn't work? I think that the article that Dreamboat posted may hold the key to your problem. Access can only display an object if the program associated with the object will work that way. Just because pictures will open in some program or another when you double click them in explorer doesn't mean that program will work as an OLE server for Access. For example, many people have jpeg images associated with Internet Explorer or Netscape. Since these programs aren't really picture viewers, they may not be of any help for viewing OLE objects in Access. Ditto for some other cheap programs (or even some expensive ones) that don't support OLE. What program do you currently have GIF and JPEG objects associated with?
