As a general rule, I think because they break forum rules- swearing, adverts, being 2 big ones, asking for advice on illegal activities ( P2P software and copying games seem to be persistent), doublr posting ( posting twice for whatever reason, 1 thread is closed to stop things getting complicated- I cant think of many others, but I am sure a mod will be along in a while to give you a full list :)

Repetetive posting of links to other websites when the apparent purpose is simply to post links to other websites is considered SPAM.

I don't see the logic to that.
And this one is still open that does the same:

I think Mike wanted to 'clean' up the threads by closing ones that weren't being used after so many months.
I've lost the link, but I do remember Mike posting a thread to this effect with the exception of Random and Civ Debate.

2002 huh... if it hit more than 5000 posts then it should get closed and and a new one should be made, but other reasons (relevance, swearing, flaming etc) would get it closed.

You can click the report link and ask for it to be open again.
But if you post in it and no one else makes a post after 45 days it will be closed again.
