    Hello,

After browsing the Internet and checking my emails I noticed that my computer system began freezing and I could not open programs such as Microsoft Word. I tried to gain access to System Restore but to no avail and could not enter Safe Mode to troubleshoot the problem. So, I utilized McAfee, which found some "adware and viruses" but could not remove all. Then, I turned to AVG 2012, Free Registery Cleaner, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Sybot - Search and Destroy for further assistance. These programs found "viruses, adware and trojans; still, some removed or quaranteed and others unable to remove.

However, the AVG Resident Shield Alert popup supplied the following information:
    Filename C:\Windows\system32\drivers\netbt.sys
    Threat Name: Trojan horse BackDoor.Generic14.BQGZ

    Further scanning, provided this information:
    Trojan horse Agent_r.ARN

Below you will find the information requested, which I hope will be helpful in resolving my computer issue(s) and I would appreciate your kind assistance since I was recently hired for a work at home position and cannot begin until my system is repaired.

If you need any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me. Again, many thanks!

Here is the information you requested:

Hi MikroXP-10, welcome to the forum.

To make cleaning this machine easier
    • Please do not uninstall/install any programs unless asked to
It is more difficult when files/programs are appearing in/disappearing from the logs.
    • Please do not run any scans other than those requested
    • Please follow all instructions in the order posted
    • All logs/reports, etc.. must be posted in Notepad. Please ensure that word wrap is unchecked. In notepad click format, uncheck word wrap if it is checked.
    • Do not attach any logs/reports, etc.. unless specifically requested to do so.
    • If you have problems with or do not understand the instructions, Please ask before continuing.
    • Please stay with this thread until given the All Clear. A absence of symptoms does not mean a clean machine.

    Please make an uninstall list
    • Start HijackThis
    • Click the Config button
    • Click the Misc Tools button
    • Click the Open Uninstall Manager button.
    • Click the Save list button and save it to your desktop.
When you press Save, a notepad will open with the contents. Copy/paste the contents of the notepad file in your next reply.

Please read through the instructions to familarize youself with what to expect when the tool runs.
It is vitally important that combofix is renamed before it is even started to download

Please download ComboFix from Link 1or Link 2 to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

    • If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:
      -Tools->Options->Main tab
-Set to "Always ask me where to Save the files".
    • During the download, before you save it to your desktop, rename Combofix to jgh.exe
    • It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after.
    • Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated.
    • Close any open browsers.
    • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix
    -----------------------------------------------------------
    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

      -----------------------------------------------------------
    • Double click on ComboFix.exe (jgh.exe in your case) & follow the prompts.
    • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
    • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:
Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

    Notes:
1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
    2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
    3. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.[/b]

    Please post back with
    • uninstall list
    • combofix log
    How is the computer?
    Thanks

    Hi Oldman960,

First of all, thank you for your effort toward resolving my Trojan issue. Second, I wish to apologize to you for taking a long time to reply. Since being newly hired for a telecommuting position I had to move a bit quicker than expected. So, after a few days without any response I backed up my important files and installed a new copy of Windows.

However, after seeing your reply, today, I proceeded with the steps you provided because I want to know if my system is free of Trojans, viruses and malwares. Below you will find the log of HijackThis.

Further, I downloaded ComboFix and renamed the file, prior to downloading, jgh.exe. Unfortunately, not only did the program take more than 10 minutes to scan but after a half an hour, still the scanning was not complete and my system froze. Therefore, I did not complete the ComboFix or jgh.exe scan.

Looking at the HijackThis log that I shared can you tell me if I am in the clear of Trojans, viruses, worms and malwares?

Again, many thanks for your kind assistance.

Hope to hear from you soon!

    Hi MikroXP-10,

HiJackThis doesn't really show a lot and is rarely used. These 2 tools will give us a much better look.

    Download OTL to your desktop.
    • Double click on OTL.exe to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
    • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output
    • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
    • In the window under Custom Scans/Fixes copy and paste the following

      netsvcs
      %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.*
      %systemroot%\Fonts\*.com
      %systemroot%\Fonts\*.dll
      %systemroot%\Fonts\*.ini
      %systemroot%\Fonts\*.ini2
      %systemroot%\Fonts\*.exe

      %systemroot%\*.scr
      %systemroot%\*._sy
      %APPDATA%\Adobe\Update\*.*
      %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Favorites\*.*
      %APPDATA%\Microsoft\*.*
      %PROGRAMFILES%\*.*
      %APPDATA%\Update\*.*
      %systemroot%\*. /mp /s

      hlp.dat
      /md5stop

    • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.

Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply. You may need two posts to fit them all in.

    Next

    Download aswMBR.exe to your desktop.

Double click the aswMBR.exe to run it

Click the "Scan" button to start scan
    [IMG]

On completion of the scan click save log, save it to your desktop and post in your next reply

There shall also be a file on your desktop named MBR.dat. Right click that file and select Send To>Compressed (zipped) folder. Please attach that zipped file in your next reply.

    Please post back with
    • both OTL logs
    • aswMBR log
