    Good Day:
I have a cd rom and a cd rw in which I installed the cd rw.
I didn't have any problems installing the cd rw and after a couple of uses my cd rom stop reading. and I have 2 drive letters coming up for my cd rw.

    I'm running Windows 98

Hi and welcome. Can you go into the control panel, system, device manager and remove all cdroms, cdrws, etc. Then restart to see what is put back.

Did you per chance install any software that would add an extra drive? There's one in particular, but the name of it escapes me right now.
