I obtained and entered the correct pop and smtp in my thunderbird accounts but the dsl provider rejects the password (which I know is correct) and I can't get mail or send mail in thunderbird. I learned that i had to have the port 25 opened..is there any other action that I have to have the techs do to make thunderbird work with my dsl account or does it reject any e-mail other than yahoo or att.net?

I use Thunderbird with my att yahoo dsl. I set mine up using the help files. They give you all the settings that you need and directions on how to access your e-mail through Thunderbird. Also, you need to go in and have your e-mail forwarded to your Thunderbird client.

When you find the information you need it will help if you have a hard copy to follow so........

highlight the info that you need..... then

Print > Print selection

This stuff can get kind of confusing. I always print out the instructions, and then keep them for future reference. Hope I am not being to elementary, but you did say that you were a novice.

I tried all I found including inserting the pop.att.yahoo.com and outgoing: smtp.att.yahoo.com
But I keep getting the message of an invalid password. I tried downloading the self support tool. but that was of no help at all.

You must not be using the correct settings. Until you can have someone with more experience set up your Thunderbird mail......just use your att/yahoo web mail account. Sign in with your user name and password that you set up your internet connection with. That would be your full e-mail address and the password you selected when you set up the account.
