    My old Win98 comp OS died and I was in a hurry to get access to my files so I have put the Hard Drive into an external box to use with my lap top.

    Unfortunately the old computer was my Internet access and had all of my old emails, addresses & favourites/bookmarks on the hard drive. I now find myself needing to access those old emails more and more; worse I need my addresses and favourites back.

    How can I transfer the old emails, addresses & favourites to my lap top?
    I have no idea where they are kept or what the file names are.
    I think thunderbird may be able to find my old addresses is that correct?

    Do I need to transfer the files first OR install thunderbird and FireFox first.
    Any help for the novice greatly appreciated.

    You will have to install thunderbird and FireFox to import the files associated to them. Fire ahead and do that now to give yourself a head start while waiting for an answer.

    Installation Guidelines & Common Questions

    Manually Transfer Mail Files
    Archive & Access Mail on CD

    Also you could try MozBackup 1.4.5 that works great.

    MozBackup is a simple utility for creating backups of
    Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Thunderbird, SeaMonkey,
    Mozilla Suite and Netscape profiles.

    It allows you to backup and restore bookmarks, mail,
    contacts, history, extensions, cache etc.

    Supported versions:
    * Firefox 1.0 - 2.0
    * Thunderbird 1.0 - 2.0 Alpha
    * SeaMonkey 1.0a - 1.1
    * Mozilla Suite 1.7 - 1.7.x
    * Netscape 7.x.

    Great for backups.
    You can say install it on more then one computer too and do a backup and the take the backup to the other computer and do a restore and have all just as you did before.
    Maybe some plug-ins or extensions would have to be reinstalled but it sure in nice getting so much done the easy way.
