I am running on Windows XP version 2000. About six months ago I started getting SysProtect messages that I could not get rid of (can't minimize or x out) I've just igored this problem--but now I'm wondering how it might be connected the current mess I've found myself in.

About five weeks ago I was prompted (by what I'm pretty sure was a legit notice) to down(up?)load the newest version of Internet Eplorer. Nothing has been right since then. I immdiately started getting every imaginable pop-up. I thought perhaps I had mistakenly turned my pop-up blocker off in the process of dealing with the new IE, but no. Also, wanted pop-ups won't work even if I turn the PU blocker completely off. I''ve also had many freeze-ups and slow downs of the whole system.

Other weird things are happening too. My keyboard is acting very strange--it hesitates and skips --only when I'm on line, never in WORD or other offline programs.

I read some posts from other similar complaints and saw that I should post a new one. I have a few consistent error messages including
    RUNDLL - Error Loading C:\windows\system 32\tyahbcgr.all ---AND
when I log on each time "Norton AV 2006 does not support the repair feature please uninstall and reinstall" Sorry for the length here....

Go to http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/programs.php to download HJTsetup.exe

    * Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
    * Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
    * By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
    * Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
    * Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
    * Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
    * At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
    * Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then save the log and then the log will open in Notepad.
    * Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
    * Paste the log in your next reply.
    * DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Thanks John, but I see that I'm not supposed to take security advice from anyone who doesn't have the hallowed "golden shield" by their name? I'm new to all this and maybe my problem is so trivial that the people with "stinking badges" don't deal with such things? Please don't think I'm ungrateful...just scared....

when trying to do everything recommended I got stuck on the safe reboot? I did the continual F-8 and I did get the option for a safe reboot (but there were many variations)-when I pressed enter on "safe mode" it then asked if I wanted to log on as the HP user or Administrator. I did what I always do and selected "HP User" then the screen went to black except for the words "safe mode" in each corner. It then sat there and did nothing.

    Did I do something wrong?

Thanks again!! I have high hopes that this will work if I can follow the instructions to the end.

    :)

Try login as the Administrator in Safe Mode. If the issue persist, do this as an alternative to AVG Anti-Spyware:

Click here to download Dr.Web CureIt and save it to your desktop.
    • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and allow to run the express scan
    • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
    • Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
    • Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
    • Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
    • Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
    • When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found:
    • If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:
    • This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
    • After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
    • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
    • Close Dr.Web Cureit.
    • Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
    • After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously in your next reply along with the rest of the logs[/B].

I'm not how to combine your first instructions with these new ones.

If I get logged on as the adminstrator do I keep going through your original instructions until I get to the AVG part, and then from there download Dr. Cure it?

Sorry to be such a dweeb..

    ;)

    1. Run the ATF Cleaner
    2. Run Dr. WebCureit and save the log
    3. Run ActiveScan and save the log
    4. After a restart, Re-scan with Hijackthis and save the log.
    5. Post all reports
      • Dr. Webcureit
      • ActiveScan
      • Hijackthis log

These reports were done after I went back to your original instructions--I proceeded even after I got the Pending File Rename Operations message from Killbox.

I have not followed your second sent of instructions that included Dr. Web Cureit. Should I follow those instructions now since I can get ActiveScan to run?
    Thanks,

    Hi, capricia906. :)

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version of Java components and upgrade the application. Beware it is NOT supported for use in 9x or ME and probably will not install in those systems

    Ugrading Java:
    • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 .
    • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
    • Click the "Download" button to the right.
    • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
    • The page will refresh.
    • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
    • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
    • Go to Start > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
    • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
    • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
    • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
    • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
    • Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.
Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
    • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
    • You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
    • When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
    • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
    • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
    • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
    • When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
    • Turn your computer back on.
    • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears at reboot.

    Hi, capricia906 :)

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

    O2 - BHO: WTLHelper Object - {6D33B121-5C4C-4450-9D1F-7B67085CC199} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\geeda.dll (file missing)

Now close all windows and browsers, other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

    Close Hijackthis.

The rest of the log looks clear. How is the computer doing?

ok, did the last thing and here's the latest log. sheesh! I'm afraid to say it lest the gremlins hear me, but I haven't had a pop up in the last few minutes and my keyboard seems to be keeping up too...

So if I have the icon on the bottom right does that mean the 30-day version of AVG is doing it's thing? Will I get a prompt to buy it when my trial is up? And is that something you would do if you were me?

Thank you SO much. Your donation will be forthcoming.

    Signed,
    relieved...
