tool bar icon removal

in Windows 98 how do I remove unwanted icons from the bottom right hand tool bar? Thanks

Hi,

I'm assuming that you're talking about your systray. Depending on which icons are down there, you might be able to right-click on them, and choose close or exit from the menu. If not, then you can just go into the System Configuration utility, then click on the startup tab, and remove the checkmarks beside any of the programs that you don't want starting up automatically. Then restart your system.:)

columbo is spot on, but he forgot to mention that you get into that System Configuraion Utility by going to Start, Run, type in msconfig then hit enter.


Post back what you have in your startup tab inside that utility and we can all help you decide what is or isn't needed.


Some of the items in there may be confusing, so you can go to http://www2.whidbey.com/djdenham/Uncheck.htm for a description on many of them.
