Hello, Help I have a Toshiba Satellite L655D S5050 a few months ago tried to start it up and it will go to the first screen and then when it tries to start windows 7 it has a black screen with a white cursor in the middle of the screen. I was told to try to restore the os with the disc that came with the computer..... It did not come with one and after taking out everything I have that came with it i now see that i should have made a restore disc before using it! well I did not do this..... so what are my options? I have bought a new toshiba and did make a restore disc for it before using it, if that helps they both run windows 7 home prem. I did try to put the new comp disc in the old one but you could hear the disc turning but after hours it never did anything :-( Thanks for your help!

If you are asking about a set of Recovery (or Restore) DVDs check on Toshiba's web site to see if you can purchase a set.

Some Toshiba models come with a Recovery Partition installed on the harddrive.

Some are able to access this by pressing "0" as the computer is booting up.

    ----------------------

If you don't have a Recovery Partition installed, ordering a Recovery CD/DVD is your only option.

Good point, Cody. I had made the (dumb) assumption that the Recovery partition was already a goner.

You can also check your documentation or on the Toshiba site for the instructions to use the Recovery partition if it exists.

Press F8 at startup and include in your next reply what your options are on that screen.

No, a Recovery Disk for another computer won't work on a different computer.

You'll need to contact the manufacturer and order a Recovery Disk.

It is possible that the harddrive is going, especially if this problem came out of nowhere and no changes were made before it.

    How old is the computer?
