Toshiba laptop stuck in hibernation?

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 6000, it was working fine a week ago before going on holiday, but now I can't get it to do anything. (it has not been touched during this time). When the power on switch is pressed the lights come on but nothing on the screen, the keyboard light "Fn"etc also light up as expected, It runs win2000 and when there is power to it or the battery has power, the fan or whatever runs for a couple of seconds. I've tried a sepreate monitor but nothing happening there either. The hibernation/powersave settings were altered a few weeks ago to a shorter time. I'm sure its something straightforward does anyone have any ideas.

Thanks
