    Hello everyone,

I wasn't very clever of placing continiously my laptop on the floor, which lead to me stepping on it the other day and now I have a broken screen. It still works, but there are colored cracks..
I contacted Toshiba to check about the cost of such a repair and I was told that the price of the screen only will be more than 300€ + the work and all will make it about 400€.
I also contacted a local computer shop and they said that a non genuine Toshiba screen will cost 160€ + work.

My question here is: Can I by myself the screen on the internet and does it take any special skills to mount it on the laptop? I have just a bit more than basic skills in repairing elecronics and I suppose I will be able to change it, if it doesn't take any special skills or tools..
And as well, what screen should I buy? A genuine Toshiba one or a less expensive one also does its job?
The brand and the model of the laptop are: Toshiba Satellite P300 - 1G6 - 17"

Thanks in advance for all eventual responses!
    Regards,
    Nicolas

Hello, yes you can replace yourself . I have done many screens in past. The LCD is attached to 2 arms under the bezel with several tiny screws. And then theres a small cable plug for the inverter and on the back is a ribbon cable. You could watch a few YouTube videos to give you an idea but it really isn't that difficult.

You certainly don't need a genuine Toshiba LCD any LCD that's the correct size should work. Like if yours is a 15.6" then be sure to purchase a 15.6".

Hi Andrew and thanks for your response!

After your words I believe I will be able to replace it myself.

Are there different qualities of screens or different makers? I'm affraid of buying one that wouldn't be suitable or having a no good image quality.
Would you be able to guide me to an online shop for the choise of a screen suitable for my laptop, please?
    Regards,
    Nicolas

Unfortunately I'm not too familiar with any UK shops as I'm in USA, however eBay and Amazon would be a good place to start. What would your budget be exactly? I'll try to help you as best as I can.

    Hi Andrew and thanks again!

I don't have a fixed budget limit, but a better price is of course welcome!

Thanks a lot for the ads you've researched for me!
One of them says 17" and on another one it says 17.1". Is it still the same screen, that would fit on my laptop or these are 2 different sizes?
    Thanks again!

    Regards,
    Nicolas

PS: Can you please show to me where exactly you are checking in with that serial number?

What's the serial number of your laptop? It Should be an exact match so we will look at Toshiba and see if its 17 or 17.1

The amazon link above is 17.0" which yours is. You should be able to purchase that and replace it

Hi gentlemen and thanks to both of you!

On the eBay ad it says once 17" and once again 17.1" . I will first remove my broken screen and see its model number and connectors and then contact the eBay seller.

And I'm in France, so I can easily shop from an UK seller. :)

I'll let you know about my progress. Thanks!!

    Regards,
    Nicolas

You may find a seller in France who would charge less for delivery.

Matching the model number and connector(s) on your present screen to a possible replacement is the best way to make sure you get the correct screen. (y)

    Good luck with it. :)
