Hi, after 5 yrs of having my touchpad not working (which was fine with me, i don't like touchpads), it suddenly came on yesterday and won't turn off even when I disable it. The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite. I didn't download anything nor change any drivers yesterday and I have no clue what to do next. I suspect I'll need to disable a driver, but I don't know how to know which driver it is nor how to disable it once found. Thanks very much for any/all help.

Unchecking the startup entry for the touchpad won't disable it.

Doing that will only disable some of its extra functions.

Go to Control Panel - Mouse, then browse through the mouse properties.

There should be a setting that allows you to disable the touchpad.

Your laptop probably has an ALPS or SYNAPTICS touchpad.

There may be a key combination that allows you to disable it, but I don't know what it is.

What's the complete model number of that Toshiba Satellite?

It'll be 2 sets of numbers and letters with a dash in the middle.

I did that before starting the thread. It's marked 'disabled' and yet is still 'enabled'. Very frustrating.

I'm having difficulty finding the support site for a Toshiba Satellite M106-S3051 laptop.

Make sure the model number is correct.

Which country do you live in?

Here is the support and downloads site for the Toshiba Satellite M105-S3051 laptop.

You should add and save this site in your browser favorites/bookmarks list so you can readily refer to it when needed.

On pages 62 and 234 of the user guide, this is what it says for enabling/disabling the touchpad:

I did all of what it says. It is marked disabled. And yet it continues to function as though it is enabled

Re-read my last reply. I've been adding screenshots to it.

If you can't see the key combination in the last screenshot, it's Fn + F9

I have now tried the control panel method (which was my first attempt before visiting this site) and the keyboard technique several times each. The touchpad still works like a charm.

You may not be able to disable the touchpad. I have an asus netbook that has settings to disable the touchpad however after disabling the touchpad, it still works. Sometimes they just will not disable.

You might check the laptop mfg's site to see if there are any bios updates that address this issue. If so, an update may fix the issue. Do be sure you fully understand the flashing procedure before attempting this task.
