Recently, my computer's power supply got fried so I am unable to get to the files on my old HD.

I'm considering buying a new computer and I was wondering if I could hook up the old HD to the new one using the IDE cables to retrieve my work.

As long as the old hard drive is still functioning you should be able to hook it up as a slave drive and copy your data files, etc.

You can't copy programs, etc.

You will have to reinstall the applications and then copy the files back to the applications or desired directories.
